What it is Needed to Become a Pharmacist

By Amy Nutt

Some jobs have more prospects in this current period than other professions. While some jobs such as being a financial analyst may pay more, the security of the job isn't exactly assured with the current trend of events and occurrences. The health care sector seems to be gathering more momentum as the demands for different careers increase. One of such careers is the pharmacist career.

Most people seem to have different ideas of what the job description of a pharmacist is. For some, he is just a dispenser, for others, he's nothing more than a tablet counter and yet for some other group of people, the pharmacist is the guy you meet at the counter in the drug section of a store who prescribes drugs or fills prescriptions among many other things. In the light of this confusion, it is better to clearly outline what the pharmacist does, and his role in the health care sector. In the simplest of terms, a pharmacist studies drugs or pills -tons of them, its effects on the body, drug dispensing, treatments and prescriptions. The knowledge gathered from all of these activities puts him in a better position where he can take care of and fill the prescriptions of patients.

The tendency however is to take the pharmacist for granted and see him as unimportant since doctors actually prescribe the medications. The pharmacist when fully employed and not sidelined, ensures that even the doctor's prescription is right. This is because in the process of hurrying, doctors sometimes prescribe wrongly.

Becoming a pharmacist isn't just about studying under one for a certain number of years before writing the exams. To become a pharmacist, it is very necessary to get 7 years of formal education. Therefore, anyone aspiring to become a pharmacist must undergo three different stages which include all the necessary courses and steps required before he can be called a pharmacist. These steps are:

1. Passing the PCAT (Pharmacy college admissions test). This is preceded by 2 years in college in the US and A-Levels in the UK. The necessary courses to be taken at this period include mathematics, physics, biology, and chemistry. These are the necessary courses required. An interested individual may however, opt for courses in the social sciences and the humanities.

2. The second step actually involves studying at the School of Pharmacy in their chosen universities or tertiary institutions. During this process, they get to learn everything related to pharmacy. Some of the necessary courses often include pharmacology, dispensing, ethics of the profession et.c. Alongside their learning, they also get to acquire professional skills, knowledge and firsthand experience of the pharmacy practice.

3. After graduation from the school of pharmacy, all graduands are required to do a 1-2 yr internship or residency program during which they are assigned projects to work on and defend at the completion of their program.

4. Finally, the pharmacist takes a qualification or conversion exam such as the Multi-state Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam in the intended state before practicing.

Basic Tennis Psychology (Part 1)

By Gail Jones

Tennis psychology is nothing more than understanding the make-up of your opponent's mind and gauging the effect of your own game on his/her mental viewpoint and also understanding the mental effects resulting from the different external causes on your own mind.

However, it is also true that you no one can be a successful psychologist of others without first understanding his own psychology. Therefore, you must study the effect on yourself of the same thing occurring under different circumstances. This is because people react differently in different moods and under different conditions.

You must realize the effect on your game of the resulting annoyance, joy, bewilderment, or whatever other form your reaction takes. Does it increase your prowess? If so, try for it, but never give it to your opponent. Does it deprive you of concentration? If so, either remove the cause, or if that is not possible, strive to ignore it.

After you have properly measured your own reaction to conditions, study your opponents to decide their characters. Similar temperaments react in a like way, and you may judge people of your own sort by yourself. Opposite temperaments you must try to compare with those people, whose reactions you are already familiar with.

Someone who can regulate his/her own mental processes stands an great chance of reading those of someone else for the mind works along definite lines of thought and can be examined. One can only control one's own mental processes after carefully examining them.

A regular, unemotional baseline player is rarely a keen thinker. If he was, he would not stay on the baseline. The physical appearance of a player is often a fairly clear indicator of his/her sort of mind. The impassive, easy-going player, who normally displays the baseline strategy, does it because he does not want to activate up his/her torpid mind to work out a reliably safe strategy of reaching the net.

Then there is the other type of baseline player, who would prefer to remain on the back of the court while directing an attack intended to break up your game. He is a much more dangerous player and a deep, quick thinking antagonist. He obtains his/her results by changing his/her length and direction and worrying you with the variance of his/her game. This player is a good psychologist.

The first sort of tennis player mentioned above just strikes the ball without much idea of what he is actually doing, while the latter always has a definite plan and sticks to it.

How to Lose Weight fast

By jose sa

To lose weight fast is the desire of everyone who has ever dieted. You want results now, but often this simple procedure becomes a difficult undertaking. The scale doesn't move fast enough in the right direction so you become disheartened and start sliding in the process even as you cry that the diet doesn't work! Tenacity in dieting is an admirable trait since the fluctuation of daily weighing is disheartening. The fastest way to lose weight is still using simple math, so grab a notebook and get ready for the weeks ahead. Yes, weeks is correct. That's about as fast as you can hope for and still be healthy. Crash diets are dangerous and not recommended.

The first questions to answer is how much you weigh and how do you normally eat during one day. Weigh yourself in the morning before eating and dressing and enter that weight with the date in you notebook. Ask your doctor what a good weight is for your age and frame. Look on any chart on the Internet or a nutrition book to find out how many calories you need to consume. Your BMR or basal metabolism rate is found on an interactive chart which asks for your weight, gender, and age. Your rate is then calculating and you are given a number of calories that your body needs just to function.

You must be consistent and write down all the food you are consuming. This notebook will be your record so that at some point, you can go back and modify the amount of calories your eating if you have to. You don't want to go overboard with the amount of weight to lose. Keep an obtainable goal at first such as losing 10 pounds in 10 weeks. What this will do is setup the baby step approach so that we don't get easily frustrated.

Everyone forgets the little nibbles or taste tests that takes place everyday. That little extra pat of butter on a small piece of bread consumed as we wait for the grilled cheese to brown or that extra mayo on the sandwich just escapes your memory. Discipline yourself to keep an accurate account of every morsel. All those calories count and must be put in your journal. Silly? Not really, because you are doing fast weight loss by the numbers and every calorie counts.

There is an unofficial way to find out how many calories you need to maintain your bodyweight. Usually you can use you bodyweight in pounds and multiply it by 12. For instance, 140 pound person would be 140 x 12 = 1680 calories. Generally, this would be the amount of calories it would take to maintain the current bodyweight.

Look at the BMR chart and jot down the number of calories that you need to maintain your body weight. Since you will to lose weight and not maintain this weight, start by subtracting a number that will make your total calories no lower than 1200. You must eat 1200 calories for your metabolism to function properly. Lower consumption interferes with metabolic rate. You probably see that this is a slow process when you limit calories only.

The best you can do will involve an increase in your activity level. It is just a matter of math and burning more calories than you need for maintenance. One half hour of walking will use 150 calories. Other activities are figured by the time you spend doing each kind. The more you burn calories, the faster you lose your unwanted weight.

SO by performing a few brief exercise workouts a week and cutting a few calories a day, we find that we can lose weight fast. Writing down the calories you consume will let you know what unecessary food you can cut out of your current eating plan.

Separation Anxiety - Help Your Children To Deal With Anxiety

By Jason H. Lee

Separation anxiety is a big issue for many new parents, and it's a very common problem. It usually develops when a child reaches around 8-12 months of age. Typical symptoms include a child becoming upset, fearful, and even hysterical when left with someone else.

Children with this problem become very tearful and overly upset, sometimes to the point of hysteria, when their parents leave them with another caregiver. When a child has separation anxiety, it can be a random individual they don't want to leave, or it could be a specific person that they never want to lose sight of.

Separation anxiety can affect the parents in the same way it does the child. Wrestling with the temper tantrums or hysterics can be exhausting and frustrating if you are the object of attachment for a child who throws a fit every time you leave the room or leave them with a babysitter.

Some children will often need more than just the presence of the chosen caregiver in the room to settle down. They will need physical contact such as being constantly held or in the care giver's lap. Whilst physical contact is essential for the emotional development of a child, a child with separation anxiety will crave this contact too much. It will get to the stage where it is impossible to get anything done around the house which can lead to other problems. Furthermore, separation anxiety will make leaving the child with someone else before going to work or simply to run some errands a daily struggle.

Parents should understand that a child's separation anxiety is a normal part of their development. It is not caused by parents being overly involved or neglectful in their child's life. Although not every child experiences this or the extent of the separation anxiety will vary, it is a normal part of your child growing up.

Try to set aside a specific time each day to work on the issue of separation anxiety. Perhaps after dinner each night you can tell your child that you are going out but will return shortly. Enter the house again in another five minutes or so, pretending that your child is not experiencing the same separation anxiety issues that may have been sparked by your initial departure. Be seated and busy yourself with reading, watching television or whatever activity you're used to and allow your child to approach you. When that happens, behave normally as if nothing transpired earlier and continue your normal routine. If you practice this consistently, your child will come to realize that you will always return eventually, and his separation anxiety should subside.

To help your child get past separation anxiety, it is helpful to actually separate from him or her more frequently on a regular basis. For instance, if your child becomes distraught each time you leave to go to work, you may be tempted to stay with him all the time when you are not at work. Instead, it may be wise for you to try something different.

Is There a Relationship Between Scurvy and Easy Bruising?

By Carolyn Cooper

Whenever you've heard the term scurvy, your first thought might have been about 18th century sailors on the tall ships that sailed the seven seas. More detailed reflection would show that scurvy is a condition that can be contracted by nearly anyone who isn't paying close attention to their diet, and one way this disease can manifest itself is through bruises appearing unexpectedly on your body. Have you recently had to deal with the discovery bruises that seemingly came from out of nowhere? Easy bruising can be a symptom of scurvy, so when you are trying to determine the cause for this bruising situation, take the time to evaluate what you need to know about this normally rare occurrence in modern society.

The first thing that you should consider is what causes scurvy to occur to begin with. Examining the most basic level, you will discover that scurvy is a disease that results from a lack of vitamin C in your body's system. Vitamin C is readily available in most fruits and vegetables with citrus fruits having the highest concentration, and when your system goes too long without it, your body will start telling you about it. Vitamin C is a critical ingredient for our bod's proper functioning, and when you realize that easy bruising is a visible sign of damage done to our body, there are a lot of things that you should consider.

The reason why scurvy is associated with pirates and with seafaring in general is because in days past, it was difficult to get fresh vegetables if you were on a long voyage. However, you should make sure that you take the necessary steps to avoid getting scurvy on dry land.

The connection that scurvy has with bruising easily is partially due to the fact that vitamin C enhances the body's ability to create collagen, a substance that helps make your skin firm yet supple. Keeping that fact in mind, it also causes your skin to be more protective of the tissues that lie just below the skin. When you lose elasticity and firmness due to reduced levels of collagen produced (which happens in some people as they grow older), you will learn that you are much more likely to get bruised. Because your skin has lost some of its protective quality, you will find a lot more discoloration and inflammation when you bump against something. Even if you weren't as subject to bruising a few years back, a lowering of the level of vitamin C in your system today can result in some fairly dramatic dark bruise formation.

Take some time and really consider what your options are going to be when you are looking at making sure that you are going to be able to get the right kind of nutrition into your body. Scurvy is certainly no laughing matter, and as you might guess, it is easier to contract than you might think.

If youre certain that you are getting sufficient vitamin C in your diet, its probably the right time to also evaluate what Bruises Be Banned can do for you. This uniquely formulated, all natural product, combined with a proven daily treatment program just could be the answer that you've been seeking to help you reduce bruising or prevent bruising altogether.

Electric Pool Heaters

By Summer Augustina

A popular type of pool heater are the electric pool heaters, which are more sophisticated than gas powered heaters, and offer some great savings. In this article, I'm going to be telling you more about these bill savings, and some drawbacks that you need to know before you make a decision about buying one.

Believe it or not, electric pool heaters are quite similar to air conditioning units, which work on the same principle . You may have heard of heat pumps in science. That is what electric pool heaters are. They move heat from one medium to another.

With these heaters, the heat comes out of the air surrounding the unit and is transferred into the water that comes from your pool. The water is then returned to the pool where it raises the temperature.

When people look at buying an electric pool heater, one of the things that often puts them off is the high price. These are very expensive heaters to install when compared to gas powered heaters, but they are much much cheaper to run than a gas powered heater, which can cost up to $3000 a year to keep your pool warm.

Electric power heaters are much more economical, costing about half that price to run.

For these reasons, you should find that is an electric pool heater will pay for itself within three years, or less depending on your own area and climate. After this, you're making savings all the way.

In spite of all this, there are some situations where electric pool heaters do not perform as well as propane heaters. This is when the air is colder, and there is less energy in the air heat your pool. While it will prevent the water from freezing, it will not raise the temperature to a comfortable level, unless you have a very powerful pool heat pump.

This leaves you with two different options. One of them is to install a very powerful heat pump which is capable of generating hot water all year round. Another option is to use a secondary heater such as a gas powered heater, which will only operate when the heat from the electric pool heater is not enough. This way, your heating bills will still be low compared to using a gas heater on its own.

Double Vision - What Causes It?

By Evgania Mehler

Double vision makes you feel like the morning after the night before. The good news is that there is a cure for double vision causes , even if you are out all night. To clear it up, literally, just read this article.

Double vision is medically called Diplopia. A single clear image is something most of us take for granted. Multiple areas of the vision system are responsible for this seemingly automatic process. All of these areas need to work together harmoniously to create clear single vision.

There are five systems of vision. The cornea lets in focused light. The lens focuses light onto the retina. The extra ocular eye muscles perform the eye's movements. The nerves carry visual information to the brain. The brain has several areas that process visual information from the eyes. These areas are all supposed to work as a team to create clear vision.

If any of the clear vision areas are not functioning properly, it can lead to Diplopia (a medical term for double vision). The part of the visual system that is not working is one of the the double vision causes.

A common double vision cause is infection of the cornea which distorts incoming light because of the damaged surface. A more uncommon double vision cause is Lasik surgery because it can leave an altered cornea causing unequal visual images. If the cornea is the cause, it usually occurs in one eye only.

If the lens is responsible for double vision, it is usually caused by cataracts. Obviously, that can distort vision in both eyes.
